Edison, Thomas Alva ( 1847-1931 ), American inventor.

Been born in Milan ( Ohio), Edison frequents the school only three months. At the age of twelve years, while he is a newspaper seller, it(he) begins to experience on mechanical and electric instruments. In 1862, it(he) bases a newspaper with weekly appearance, Grand Trunk Herald, and prints him(it) in a provided him with coach, which is also of use to him(her) as laboratory. To reward for having saved him(it) the life of a child, one teaches him(her) the telegraphy and he becomes an operator of telegraph. It is there that it(he) makes(does) its(his) first invention : a telegraph duplex apartment which allows to pass on automatically messages on another line, without the intervention of an operator.

In 1876, thanks to the sale of devices of telegraphy, Edison collects enough money(silver) to create his(her) own laboratory. The biggest realization in telegraphy is the simultaneous transmission of several messages on the same line which multiplies the capacities of the telegraph. It(he) invents also the microphone with cartridge of carbon, realization important for the development of the telephone.

In 1877, Edison ends a record player in which the sound is registered(recorded) mechanically on a cylinder covered with metallic paper. Two years later, it(he) presents the electric light bulb to incandescence, maybe the most famous of its(his) inventions (to see Lighting). In 1882, it(he) develops and installs(settles) the first power plant of the world, in New York. However, the used direct current should leave the place informed alternate, of more effective employment(use), developed by Nikola Tesla and George Westinghouse.

In 1887, Edison enlarges his(her) laboratory and installs(settles) it to West Orange, in New Jersey (he was previously for Menlo Park). In 1888, it(he) invents Kinétoscope, first machine to produce images animated(stimulated) by fast succession of individual sights. Later, it(he) invents a battery(drum kit) (an alkaline battery nickel - iron), improves also the record player (system with disc and with diamond). By synchronizing its(his) record player and its(his) Kinétoscope, it(he) produces, in 1913 , the first sound film (to see American, cinema). The other discoveries include the machine in ronéotyper, the microtasimètre (used to discover weak changes in temperature) and a method of telegraphy without thread to communicate with trains in traffic. When bursts the First World war, Edison conceives, builds and makes work factories of chemicals. In 1915, he is named a president of the consultative Committee of the American navy. The later works consist mainly in perfecting the inventions. Edison makes patent on the whole more than one thousand invented. More technologist than scientist, it(he) brings few(little) of new data to the scientific knowledge. In 1883, however, it(he) observes the stream of electrons emitted(uttered) by a warmed strand: the effect Edison, today widely used in electronics.

In 1878, Edison is made(done) chevalier of the Legion of Honnour and, in 1889 , commander of the Legion of Honour. In 1892, it(he) is decorated with Albert Medal of the Royal Society of Arts British and, in 1928 , it(he) receives the golden medal of the Congress for the development and the implemented(operated) of inventions which revolutionized the civilization during the last century.

Still thank you mister Edison for your inventions.
